From Bashu (2005-6)

It is hard to believe that the energetic, helpful and ever smiling man has passed away. He was our guardian during our stay in Montreal. Whether that is for his lake house, Canoe or ski trip Jim played key role to entertain us. His heart was big like ocean and was deep love for every one. That is why; we all from different cultures and background easily accommodate on his heart. I still remember his effort to put United Nations flag on his lake house during the heavy snow fall, wearing brown jacket and woolen cap. We all were curiously looking his activities from the window. He was heading to mount the flag with big boots on fresh snow, giant, tall and deserved. When he came back after the flag was successfully mounted, he smile and announced “You all are welcome in my house”, as proudly as a mountaineer just return after conquering the Everest. During my stay in Montreal, I found him very enthusiast about other culture. On the ski trip Dawa, Jamlong, Fatima, Naomi and I were playing on snow for late night. During that period I made an Idol of Lord Shiva from the piles of snow. Jim was watching all of our activities from the balcony. Later he called me and asked what I made it. I briefed him about the Lord Shiva’s Idol with his wife, which is literally the mix of male and female sex organ. At first he thought that I was joking. When I told seriously, he was very curious and replied “I should visit Nepal”. “I will be proud to welcome you in Nepal” I replied. Even after the months he was asking me about the logic and philosophy behind that snow idol which I made. I was able to brief my culture on the base of my knowledge but failed to keep my word to welcome him in my country. Jim is still alive in my memory and will forever. May his soul rest in peace.
