The painting There was a painting in Jim’s office given to him by one of the past scholars. That picture made me think a lot while I was a scholar and makes me think about it even more, now that Jim has past away. It shows an old man surrounded by smiling children and house animals who offer him fruit and gifts. It is obvious that they love him very much and it is more obvious that the man/ teacher/ grandfather is delighted with the children and of the way his life turned out to be. We all loved Jim very much and still do. That painting is a perfect metaphor for Jim’s life and achievements. If any of us ever receive just a small percent of the love Jim earned, then we could truly say that our lives had a meaning. Gilli Stern (2006-7)
